Surrender to the adventure

March 25, 2009 - Well, Tammie and I are making plans to move to Montana and teach. What is God’s mission for us? We don’t really know what the specifics of this might be. All we know is that we feel that God wants us to transplant our family to Montana. Who knows what kind of ministry this will open up for us? No matter what, we are committed to follow God on this incredible adventure.
Experience is a great teacher as we look backward over choices we’ve made and the battle scars we’ve earned along the way.

Adventure is unpredictable because you are looking forward as you stand on the edge of taking your first step.

The thing is, you can’t really gain experience unless you are willing to surrender your life to the adventure. Trust me, as much as you’d like to control everything and know the outcome before you take that step, it’s the adventure that keeps us growing.

Of all the ways God could have chosen to relate to us, he invites us into an adventure with him—a relationship with him—to walk with him and depend on him for our “daily” bread. Look at how Jesus lived out this adventure, inviting the disciples to join him along the way. He’s still doing the very same thing with us now.

As you pray about the future, your career, family, where you will live, etc., I want to encourage you with this: Don’t seek a destination, but rather seek a direction. Then, pursue it with all your heart.
Because the Sovereign Lord helps me, I will not be disgraced. Therefore, I have set my face like a stone, determined to do his will. And I know that I will not be put to shame.
-Isaiah 50:7 (NLT)
